Computer Generated Conception of Evolutionary Transitions E-mail
(1 Vote)
This artistic interpretation of evolutionary transitions displays some brilliant computer generated animation. Those familiar with vertebrate evolution, will readily notice that the series is a branching one that does a lot of skipping around, sometimes leading to extinct forms. The series hits some of the popular highlights, running from early fish evolution in the Cambrian, through ostracoderms and onward to transitional forms, such as Acanthostega and Ichthyostega.

As the clock counts down an amphibian egg morphs into an amniote egg and then a small lizard-like reptile transforms into a giant sail-finned Edaphasaurus. A fancifully interpreted transformation from Demetridon to the terrifying Gorgonops ensues as the clock rushes from Permian to Triassic. A little subterranean dicynodont scurries about in its burrows, then morphs into a larger form. A physosaur looks on as a tiny lizard-like archosaur stands erect and transforms from a coelosaur-like theropod into the fearsome Allosaurus.

Taking a giant leap forward, we are transported to an African woodland where an ape-like human ancestor descends from a tree, straightens its crook-kneed stance and strides upright into a group of early hominids that recall Ardipithecus or Australopithecus.
