How to Send, Receive, and Manage Private Messages

The private messaging system on Open2it is a feature-rich application that is really great for keeping in touch with other members. The nice thing about it is that it can be accessed from so many places. Other articles cover the variety of options for accessing the private messaging system (see Navigating and Using Your Member Profile, Navigating the Profiles of Other Members, and Establishing and Managing Connections), so this document focuses on the main application available through the My Messages link in the User Menu.

Selectable items appear in bold type and menu names and variable text are italicized.

After you login to Open2it, locate the Member Menu in the left menu bar. Click on the My Messages link to jump to the following view.

After messages have been sent to you, they will be displayed in your Inbox.

Your Inbox displays 10 messages per page. Use the navigation at the foot of the pane to move between pages or show all messages. You can forward a message to other members in your connections list by clicking the icon. To save a message for up to a year select the archive icon. The archive icon appears only after a message has been read. To move a message to the trash folder, select the icon to the right of the message. To move multiple messages to the trash folder, select their checkboxes and click the icon below the checkbox column.
