What should I write about? |
|
You should write in your blog about anything that interests you and will potentially interest others. Your blog is how you tell the world who you are and what you think about, find interesting, and value.
There are definitely topics that are better than others, purely from a human interest standpoint. It is important to choose topics that are more than just conversation about trivial things. Discussing how well your kid did at a third grade recital is of little interest to anyone but you and perhaps your family, but using that recital to highlight some interesting observation about human behavior or social norms would be of interest to many.
Long rambling monologues are strongly discouraged, but focused discussions can be lengthy if necessary to provide needed background. Others will respond most favorably to your posts if they hold interest, so a balance between length and attention spans should be sought.
Your blog should focus on interesting (and sometimes unique) insights. Blog about the things you have a passion for and you will find that others share your enthusiasm.
Use your blog to start discussions by asking clearly framed questions that invite feedback. People love to participate in discussions when the topic is well defined, thoughtfully presented, and clearly focused.
Here are a number of suggested topics for bloggers.
- Analysis of any sort.
- topics in the news
- how your job impacts society
- observations of people or animals
- your thoughts and observations on religion, diversity, globalization, etc.
- thoughts on books, movies, or popular ideas that impact human perceptions (review something!)
- thoughtful commentary on eccentric or pathological personalities as seen in celebrities or people you know (use fictitious names for the latter)
- if you are a scientist, historian, or philosopher, write about your research such that a lay audience can understand it
- Your thoughts on or in-depth analysis of political issues
- Good and bad child rearing practices
- World views and cultural differences
- Humorous stories that have a point
- Advice in areas of expertise
- Original short stories and poetry
Here are some topic areas that are inappropriate for Open2it:
- How-tos (unless they are of very broad interests)
- Technical descriptions
- Product or service pitches or ads (these are spam and spammers will be banned from Open2it).You can place ad links in your posts, but ONLY if your topic is a relevant and informative discussion about something of interest to Open2it visitors.
- Defamations of character (stick to facts and avoid character assassinations)
- Personal announcements (e.g., getting married, developed a wart, got a new job), unless they include some unique insight or are instructive in some way, but, of course, then they are not personal announcements—and that's the point.
